Tucson Unified students in grades Kinder through 6th grade will be tested to determine student eligibility to receive gifted services in the TUSD GATE program. The testing usually happens in the months of September and December and students who qualify will get placement for the following school year.

The Tully GATE Magnet program is a modified Self-Contained Model and provides that all students receive the same instruction and strategies, full time, in a self-contained classroom environment. Teachers work directly with GATE educators and have a positive instructional model. All identified TUSD GATE students grades 4-8 are invited to participate in 7 virtual sessions. Sessions are scheduled approximately every 4 weeks, and are organized by region in an effort to accommodate students across the district and maintain a manageable number of participants for a more personalized setting.

The goal of our GATE program is to identify students with exceptional abilities, well beyond grade or age expectations, and then establish how the child can receive both differentiated learning experiences within the classroom and an occasional enrichment opportunity outside of the classroom.
